Lapland in Fall

When we crossed the border from Norway into Finland in September 2017, Lapland slapped us in the face with -2° Celsius. The beautiful colors of the forests and the serenity of the scenery was worth it though. After two icy nights in our tent and a few hitched rides later, we reached our home for the next seven days: Harriniva Hotels & Safari (unpaid advertising).

Lapland in fall (or autumn 🇬🇧 😉) seems like all the snowbirds had already left for Italy: tourists visit Finland especially in winter and summer, which is why hotels and tourism services are largely closed for the golden season. The sustainable adventure company Harriniva made an exception and invited us for a week to produce some footage for their online presence. We could use the fat bikes, mountain bikes and did some canoeing, rafting, and hiking. We cuddled the pups on the property, spend a few nights in one of their amazing Aurora Domes, and enjoyed a real Finish sauna for the very first time. Yes, jumping into a freezing lake afterward is recommended, and when you're all alone, clothing is optional. 🧜‍♂️
We were able to experience three of Harriniva's destinations, and we were the only ones there! And so we wandered the hallways and forest paths of the abandoned properties at night (👻), chatted in the same sauna (they are normally separated by gender), collected delicious berries in the forest to put in our pancakes or fed some hey to the local reindeer.
